cc-glad-to-be-hereSeveral Miami Dolphins defensive backs have identified a leader in the group and on the team and it’s a player that hasn’t even received a helmet yet — Chris Culliver.

Culliver will miss at least Miami’s first six games on the physically unable to perform list as he continues to rehabilitate from torn anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments. Culliver signed on August 10, but isn’t permitted to practice or even be issued equipment.

But as one Dolphins defensive back said when asked what player is leading the squad as they face a 1-3 hole: “Cully. No doubt. It’s Chris Culliver.”

Chris Culliver hit the runway last Saturday, and his main accessory included a leash.

To help benefit The Washington Humane Society, the Redskins cornerback participated in the 10th annual Fashion for Paws event at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C., where he and his pit bull Trina strutted their stuff in front of donors.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins was also there as an honorary chair, and as Culliver documents on his Instagram, many of the dog owners went all out.

That included Culliver, who dressed up Trina, who just turned four years old, in a burgundy and gold wreath around her neck.

The event was also a way for Culliver to promote his eponymous foundation – it features Trina in the center of the logo – which aims to raise money to provide, protect and advocate for the common welfare of animals across the world.

If you don’t follow Chris Culliver on social media, he really does adore Trina. See for yourself.

The Fashion for Paws® Runway Show is a nationally acclaimed one-of-a-kind luxury brand event to benefit the Washington Humane Society. The heart and soul of the event are the fundraising models who agree to raise a minimum of $3,000 in just twelve weeks leading up to the event by participating in a friendly fundraising competition. The top fundraiser, winning “Model Washingtonian of the Year,” and the first and second runner up will be recognized on the runway.

This event is for ages 21+.

Capable cornerbacks are continuing to fly off the board at a breakneck pace.

The latest is Chris Culliver. The Washington Redskins announced Friday that they signed the cornerback. According to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, the deal is for four years and is worth $32 million.

The 26-year-old former third-round pick spent his first four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.

Culliver had a strong 2014 after missing the previous season due to an ACL tear. His career arc is still ascending, too, with a marked improvement over each of his first two seasons.

Surprisingly, this past season was his best, though.

Culliver pushed through what is typically a down year for those recovering from a torn ACL. He allowed just half of the passes thrown his way to be caught, according to Pro Football Focus, and surrendered an opposing passer rating of 66.5.

The move continues a — to quote Around The NFL comrade Chris Wesseling — surprisingly sensible offseason for Daniel Snyder and his crew in Washington.

While certain teams in the division are building up for a high-profile arms race, the Scot McCloughan era is one beginning with some measured hits.

Culliver is absolutely one of them.
